Flick books

Flick books are similar to pheokistoscope in that they are a primitive form of animation.

A flick book contains a series of images which are slightly different from each other but when they are 'flicked' they simulate motions or some other change.

The German word for flick book - Daumenkion, literally "thumb cinema" - reflects this process.

Like zoetropes the flick book requires 'persistence of vision' to see that continuous motion is being seen rather than a series of disjointed still images.

To make your flick book you will need:
loose paper
pen or pencil

To make your flick book you should start from back to front. Draw you animation on the right hand side of the page and don't forget to check if there's any jumping animation ans if so just add another paper with the animation in between them. Once you're  happy with your flick book just secure it and flick though the pages with you thumb.
